NEIGHBOR BY NEIGHBOR (NbyN) is a Section 501c3 qualified not-for-profit corporation serving the needs of the impoverished in and around the Harbor Country area of Southwest MI. NbyN seeks to help clients move from dependence to independence both through direct assistance and programming and by connecting them with needed services offered through other private and government organizations. Created only five years ago, NbyN is rapidly evolving from a “grassroots” start-up to a mature institution serving the ever-growing needs of our communities with a half-million-dollar annual budget.

PROFILE
NbyN seeks an energetic, compassionate, and creative Executive Director who will carry out our core mission while leading the ongoing transition to long-term institutional sustainability. The ED position will involve operation oversight, strategic planning, fundraising, collaboration with local private and public organizations, and the ability to meaningfully connect with our rural communities.
QUALIFICATIONS

As the new Executive Director of Neighbor by Neighbor, there are several exciting opportunities to drive the organization’s growth and impact:
- Strategic Vision and Growth: The Executive Director will have the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of Neighbor by Neighbor. This involves setting long-term goals, expanding programs, and identifying new funding sources. Developing a comprehensive strategy to enhance the organization’s reach and effectiveness will be a key focus.
- Strengthening Community Partnerships: Building and nurturing relationships with local businesses, government agencies, and other non-profits will be crucial. The Executive Director can spearhead efforts to forge new partnerships and strengthen existing ones, creating a robust network of support for the organization’s initiatives.
- Innovation in Programs and Services: There is an opportunity to innovate and expand the organization’s programs and services. The Executive Director can assess community needs, implement new programs, and enhance existing ones to better serve Harbor Country residents. This might include developing new initiatives or adapting existing ones to meet evolving needs.
- Fundraising and Financial Sustainability: Leading efforts to secure funding through grants, donations, and fundraising events will be a primary responsibility. The Executive Director can implement strategies to increase financial support, ensuring the organization’s sustainability and ability to meet its goals.
- Staff and Volunteer Development: The Executive Director will play a crucial role in building and leading a strong team. This includes recruiting, mentoring, and developing staff and volunteers. Creating a positive and productive work environment will be essential for achieving organizational objectives.
- Community Engagement and Advocacy: Enhancing the organization’s visibility and engaging with the community are key opportunities. The Executive Director can represent Neighbor by Neighbor at public events, advocate for the organization’s mission, and raise awareness about its impact.
- Operational Excellence: Improving operational efficiencies and implementing best practices will be an opportunity for the Executive Director. This involves streamlining processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and enhancing overall organizational effectiveness.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilizing data to drive decisions and measure impact will be a significant opportunity. The Executive Director can establish metrics for success, evaluate program outcomes, and use data to inform strategic decisions and improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Nonprofit experience in the human services sector
- Fundraising or grant writing experience
- Team management experience
- Strategic planning experience
- Social media expertise preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
- Enhance and develop programming through strategic planning and implementation of the core mission.
- Oversee and provide direct client services as needed.
- Prepare timely reports and agendas for Board and Committee meetings.
- Oversee and develop a highly qualified 4-person staff with yearly goals, subject to periodic review.
- Challenge each staff person to develop professionally to meet annual goals and effectively carry out the work of the organization.
- Direct fundraising efforts to grow resources and support the core mission. Fundraising includes developing good relationships with existing funders, making appeals for support, expanding the donor base, and securing grants.
- Attend and present at all Board meetings; attend Committee meetings as required. Work in partnership with Board to support Board initiatives; keep Board apprised of key happenings concerning the organization.
- Proactively engage as a liaison to partner with private and public organizations in the community.
- In collaboration with the financial officer/accountant, manage the budget and cash flow of the organization while maintaining appropriate financial controls.
- Oversee rented office space as a welcoming and productive environment for staff, clients, and donors.
- Oversee IT operations, including cyber security and website/social media content creation; maintain a consistent and regularly updated social media presence through the website, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
